About
NO MATTER WHERE YOU WANT TO GO IN THE WORLD, WE WILL TAKE YOU THERE.
Dreamscape Destinations. It is a family-owned Business in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. My love for travel began when I was a child because of my mother. Being a single mother working in retail she could never afford much, so our imagination would take us on many adventures, from being an artist in Paris, singing on a hill in Austria or dancing with a chimney sweep and penguins in London, I would color pictures to replicate the scenery and pretend to visit these beautiful destinations, my dolls would have croissants at a Café in Paris, and I would take them around my room as I was their tour guide introducing them to different landmarks and when the tour was over I would plan their next trip, I would ask my mom where they wanted to go next.
My mom always told me it was ok to dream of the places I want to go, we would close our eyes make a wish or wish upon a star, she also told me that dreams and wishes don’t always happen right away, that when it's time for that dream/wish to come true it will so to be patient.
I fell in love with Disney movies, well everything Disney, my favorite wasn’t so much a movie as a character, Jiminy Cricket was my first I felt he validated it was ok for me to be a dreamer, till this day I still cry every time I see him, or hear him sing “when you wish upon a star” or even think about him honestly. My mom would buy me Disney coloring books so that way, I could put the pictures up to pretend I was with the characters, I remember seeing this purple dragon and I fell in love with him. I begged my mom to go to Disney only to see Jiminy and Figment, we couldn’t at that time so I would just wish and use my imagination.
As I got a little older my love for travel never went away, I still watched movies to be able to visually visit the places I wanted to go. I would read books to immerse myself in the lives of the characters, study different landmarks and history. I took my mom's Atlas, that she had purchased to one day have her dream come true to travel Historic Route 66 and tore out the maps and hung them on the wall. She didn’t get mad, but one day when I was 11, she was looking at the map of Florida and asked if I still wanted to see Jiminy and Figment, of course I did, she had been saving for the past 3 years to make that dream come true to take me to Disney World. I will never forget the sacrifice that she made for me. Even till this day 37 years later I cry thinking about that trip and what it has meant to me over the years.
When I became a teenager into adulthood, all I wanted to do was still travel or plan vacations, life didn’t have that in the cards for me yet. My mom always reminded me about having patience with my dreams. I got married and had 2 children and I told my husband when my son was 2 and my daughter was 1, we are taking them to Disney World, that was their first time and my second time 18 years later. Planning that made me realize how much I still wanted to be a Travel Advisor and to travel, I started to feel it just wasn’t meant to be. We had traveled to Disney World numerous more times even taking my mom. My son till this day 19 years later if we go to Disney every morning, we have to take a walk to the Resort restaurant fill our Disney refillable cups and grab breakfast. This is the time we laugh and talk just him and I. A tradition and a memory that was started when he was 2.
When my daughter was 8 years old, I overheard my mom and her making a plan to travel Route 66 when she graduated high school, of course I laughed my daughter had no clue what Route 66 was, but my mom still had that dream, and of course I invited myself because I wanted to travel and I wanted to make my mom's dream come true the way she did mine. I just needed to be patient like my mom has been all these years.
I began planning vacations with my family and trying to take them when we can no matter if it is going to visit a friend for the weekend and stay at a campground, or renting a cabin with family and friends in Wisconsin for the week, taking that must needed girls trip to Santa Clause Indiana, or couples trip to Mexico, traveling to Tennessee and Washington to visit family. The hardest and most rewarding trip I have ever taken and planned was Route 66 for my daughters graduation, my mother for 13 years had been fighting Metastatic breast cancer and passed away 10 months before my daughters graduation, My daughter and I still took part of the trip unfortunately we were not able to do the whole trip, but we went from Missouri to New Mexico, in memory of my mom we left memorials along the way. This is one trip across America I will do again. Each trip was treated as if it’s the last time I will be able to go even if I have visited that destination before.
One day I was planning a trip to Mexico and I thought to myself, what am I doing my kids are grown, I've supported my husband's career I helped my mom through her fight with Cancer its time, it's time for me to follow my dreams, and Now my dream has come true, I own my own Travel Agency and I find great pleasure in helping others turn their dreams into memories that will last a lifetime.
